The China Resources-JCI Hospital Management Institute (the Institute) was inaugurated in Hong Kong and Beijing recently. It was co-founded by China Resources Healthcare Company Limited (CR Healthcare) and Joint Commission International (JCI) together. CR Healthcare signed with JCI an exclusive 20-year agreement, becoming the latter’s only official joint venture partner in the Chinese Mainland and Hong Kong. It is also the first training agency for healthcare quality management that JCI has established in the form of joint venture across the world. As the healthcare reform keeps proceeding, hospital operators and managers are facing increasingly strict requirements. The collaboration between the largest Chinese central enterprise and the world-leading hospital management institution will definitely inject new impetus to China’s health care reform.

What JCI values most is its sound educational and training system, which is comprised of many healthcare management books, medical management journals, and customizable training courses given by experts, providing an insight into all aspects of healthcare quality management in a progressive way. An important mission of the Institute is to introduce the most orthodox and authoritative training courses and publications from JCI to the Chinese medical institutions, based on the advanced knowledge system develop the theories and tools fit for the local healthcare quality and security management, and lift the Chinese hospitals’ operating and management capacity to a higher level. Besides, the Institute will also foster an array of hospital managers with international vision and practical experience in China, so as to continuously improve the healthcare quality and security.

President and CEO Paula Wilson noted that the Institute is JCI’s first joint venture company worldwide. CR Healthcare, an influential market player in the Chinese medical community, boasts an outstanding, professional team of managerial personnel. With a good reputation in enhancing public hospitals’ healthcare and service quality, it is bent on contributing to the long-term growth of the Chinese medical industry and the healthcare cause of the human beings. This coincides with JCI’s goal, which determines that CR Healthcare will be a good partner. JCI would offer the joint venture company a complete set of training courses and publications. At the very beginning of the Institute, JCI will also provide all lecturers as needed until China trains their own ones. With its products and services, the Institute is expected to help the Chinese medical organizations to render patients more secure services of higher quality.

As General Manager Chen Gang of CR Healthcare said, JCI puts quality and security as the core of its operation. In the long run, this will encourage the Chinese hospitals to integrate the philosophy that “patients come first” into their core values, thus capable of benefiting the vast of patients by offering them high-quality services. But based on different cultures, JCI’s management methods cannot fit well in the routine management work of the Chinese hospitals unless combining with these hospitals’ practical experience for flexible use.

JCI is affiliated to the Joint Commission (TJC). Founded in 1951, the Commission comes as the most time-honored and largest-scaled standard formulation and appraisal agency in the United States’ medical service sector. The goal of JCI is set to improve the international community’s healthcare security and quality through offering them educational, publication, consulting and appraisal services. (JCI’s accreditation and consulting services are rendered by different departments for the purpose of ensuring fairness.) JCI accreditation is considered the gold standard for global healthcare quality management. So far, the business of JCI has reached more than 100 countries/regions. Nearly 800 medical organizations from over 60 countries/regions across the globe have passed the JCI accreditation. In recent years, JCI is gaining more recognition among the Chinese medical organizations. By November 2015, more than 50 hospitals from the Chinese Mainland had passed the JCI accreditation, which laid a solid foundation for the healthcare quality and patient safety.
